Dutch mezzo-soprano Maria Warenberg is rapidly establishing herself as one of the most compelling young voices in opera today. Since the 2024/25 season, she has been a member of La Troupe Lyrique at the Opéra National de Paris.
In the 2025/26 season, Maria appears as Artist in Residence for the Friday Concert Series with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring a series of performances that include Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ as La Vierge Marie. In spring 2026 she will perform Haydn’s Scena di Berenice and premiere a new work written especially for her.
Recent and upcoming engagements include Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro on tour with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and Tisbe in Rossini’s La Cenerentola at the Opéra National de Paris.
She made her Edinburgh International Festival debut as Annio in La clemenza di Tito, and returned to Opera Ballet Vlaanderen to open the season with a celebratory Rossini gala. Her interpretation of Annio with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen was also seen in Luxembourg and Vienna as part of the Wiener Festwochen.
A passionate interpreter of Lied and concert repertoire, Maria has appeared with orchestras including the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie and performed Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été and Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder. In March 2025 she presented her recital program Into the Night with pianist Malcolm Martineau at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Maria completed her master’s degree with distinction at the Dutch National Opera Academy (Conservatorium van Amsterdam), where she performed roles including Costanza in Haydn’s L’isola disabitata with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century under Kenneth Montgomery.
Maria Warenberg is a laureate of the 2023 Queen Elisabeth Competition and multiple prize winner of the Classic Young Masters competition.
